Top 10 World’s Largest Country Producers of
Chicken Meat – Based on data
from The Food and Agriculture Organization Corporate Statistical
Database (FAOSTAT) in 2026, there are 10 World’s Country Producers of
Chicken Meats in 2024. Of course, statistically, these countries have a high
production of chicken meat, and people in these countries like chicken meat as
a source of protein. Commonly, in the broiler industries, there are some popular broiler chickens for meat production including Cornish Cross, Bresse, White
Plymouth Rock, Jersey Giant, Freedom Ranger, Ginger Broiler, red broiler,
Hubbard, Orpington, Vencobb, and naked neck.
The chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) is a domesticated form of
the red junglefowl, originally native to Southeast Asia. Specifically, one of
the specific chickens, Broiler, is one of the types of crossbreeds with high
productivity, especially in producing chicken meat and many countries breed,
raise, and feed the broiler for meat production along with high demands and
needs of protein consumption by humans.
Statistically, The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) has issued a report on the world’s production of chicken meat from 1961 to 2024. Here is the world’s production report of chicken meat from 1961 to 2024.

Brief Description of the Top 10 World’s Biggest Country Producers of Chicken Meats
1. The United States of America
The United States of America is the world’s biggest country
producer of Chicken Meat with total production reaching 20,176,637 tons in
2024. Geographically, Broiler poultry in the USA spread across several states.
Specifically, Georgia, Arkansas, North Carolina, Alabama, and
Mississippi are the top five states which produce and contribute enormous
amounts of chicken meat to USA’s chicken meats. Based on data obtained from
the National Chicken Council in the United States, the state of Georgia can
produce 1.3 million tons of chicken meat, the state of Alabama can produce 1.1
million tons, Arkansas is one million tons, North Carolina is 873 thousand
tons, and Mississippi is 748 thousand tons. In this country, chicken production
is dominated by large corporations. Major corporations that dominate the
broiler market include Tyson Food, Pilgrim’s Pride Corp, Sanderson Farm
Inc, Purdue Food, and Koch Food. These companies also cooperate with local
farmers in producing chickens with a contract system between farmers and these
companies. Culturally, related to food habits, The USA's people love to eat
more chicken meat than any other meat. Specifically, the consumption of chicken
meat per-capita consumption sits around 101 to 102 pounds per year.
2.China
China still becomes the 2nd world’s biggest chicken
meat country producer. Specifically, in 2024, chicken meat production was 15.3
million tons. There are several provinces that become the central production of
chicken meat in China. Specifically, the provinces include Shandong, Guangdong,
Jiangsu, Liaoning, and Hebei and these provinces have a huge contribution to China's chicken meat. In this country, there
are several large chicken farming companies that control the chicken meat
trade. These companies include Guangdong Wen’s Food Group Co., Ltd.,
Shandong New Hope, Liuhe Group Co. Ltd., Charoen Pokphand Group, Dalian Hanwei
Enterprise Group, and Beijing DQY Agriculture Technology Co., Ltd.
Although China became one of the world's
largest country producers of chicken meat, China still imported the chicken
meat to fulfill domestic consumption from
other countries including Brazil, Thailand, the United States, and Russia.
3.Brazil
Brazil is the 3rd world’s largest country producer of chicken meat with total output
production reaching 13.7 million tons in 2024. The chicken farming sector is a
mainstay sector for Brazil because it can provide jobs for its 3.6 million
population, both directly and indirectly. In this country, chicken farms have
spread in several states, but the southern region of Brazil is still the center
of chicken production. Paraná, Santa Catarina, Grande do Sul states in
Southern Brazil still become main
production states of Brazilian chicken.
Specifically, Parana contributed 30% of Total Brazil’s chicken meat, followed
by Santa Catarina with 17% of Brazil’s meat production, and Grande do Sul 14%
to Brazil’s national chicken meat production. In this country, the chicken meat
trade is controlled by several large corporations such as BRF S.A, JBS
S.A, and Copacol.
4.Russia
Russia is the 4th world’s largest country producer of
chicken meat in the world. In 2024, its production reached 5,457,329 tons. Some
areas have become main production regions of chicken meat in Russia. The
Belgorod Region, Chelyabinsk Region, Leningrad Region, Stavropolsky Krai, and
Brianskaya Oblast are some of the
largest regions which have huge production of
chicken meat in Russia. Culturally,
Chicken is the most consumed meat in Russia, ranging between 35 kg and 36 kg per person annually. Related to economic
conditions in Russia, some of the chicken meat
industry is controlled by some companies including Cherkizovo Group,
Belgrancorm, Servolux Posad, and the Resource Group.
5. India
India is the 5th world’s largest country producer of
chicken meat in 2024. In that year, its chicken meat production reached
5,019,410 tons. In this country, there are some states which have huge
production of chicken meat and become the main production states of chicken
meat. Specifically, these states are Haryana with the production of 352
thousand tons, followed by West Bengal with 328 thousand tons, Uttar Pradesh
with 270 thousand tons, and Tamil nandu with 144 thousand tons. Despite the
massive overall volume of production, the consumption of chicken meat in India
remains low at around 3 to 7 kilograms per person annually compared to the
global average of over 17 kg. Structurally, in India, around 85% to 90% of
chicken in India is sold through traditional "wet markets" as live
birds or freshly butchered meat.
6. Indonesia
Indonesia still become one of the world’s largest country producers of chicken
meat in 2024 with production reaching 4,179,444 tons according to FAO
Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT). Until 2024, based on the data of
National Statistics of Indonesia, the main provinces of chicken meat production
were still in the Java Island. This happens because the largest population in
Indonesia is still more scattered on the
island of Java than other islands. Specifically, the province of Indonesia
which has the bigger production of chicken meat than other provinces, namely
Jawa barat (west java) with 935 thousand tons, Jawa Tengah (central java) with
787 thousand tons, Jawa Timur (east java) with 543 thousand tons, and Banten
248 thousand tons. Commonly, Chicken Still becomes the most indispensable
meat at the Indonesian meat market, serving as the primary, affordable animal
protein for nearly 90% of the non-pork-eating population because most of the
population is Muslim which is why pork is
forbidden in this country.
In Indonesia alone, there are two systems for developing chicken
meat production and marketing. These patterns include independent patterns and
partnerships with livestock companies. The independent pattern means that all
production, processing, and marketing activities from beginning to end are the
responsibility of the perpetrator or the farmer himself while the partnership
pattern is a pattern of cooperation between farmers and livestock companies
such as JAPFA or Charoen Pokhpand in developing chicken production to
marketing. Partner companies usually provide seeds, marketing assistance, and
training to chicken farmers.
