10 World's Biggest Fish Oil Producing
Countries- According to FAO report in 2016, there
are 10 world's biggest fish oil producing countries in 2002. These countries basically
have huge production of fish oil. Fish oil basically is oil derived from the
tissues of oily fish in fish species with oil (fats) in soft tissues and in the
coelomic cavity around the gut. Some of these oily fish include Salmon,
Mackerel, Tuna, Anchovies, Sardines, Herring. Nutritionally, fish oil is good
for human’s health because it contains two omega-3s namely, fatty acids eicosapentaenoic
acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), precursors of certain
eicosanoids.
Commonly, many people consumed fish oils because of its positive benefits. For healthy aspect, consuming fish oil can protect against heart disease, support good mental health, reduce the risk of certain cancers and inflammation. Statistically, there are some countries that had become the biggest producer of Fish Oils in the World. These data were obtained from FAO report entitled “Commodity Statistics Update Fishmeal and Fish oil”.

1.Peru
Peru still becomes the world’s biggest fish
oil producing countries. According to FAO, the production of Fish Oil from Peru
reached 188.9 thousand tons in 2002. As one of the world’s biggest country producers
of Fish Oil, Peru Exported its fish oil around $ 420 million in 2019. It makes
peru the world’s largest exporter of Fish Oil. In Peru, Colpex, Marex and Tasa
are some of the companies which produces the fish oils. Based on the exonomic
partnets, Belgium, Canada, China, Chile, and Norway are some destination countries
of fish oil from Peru.
2.Chile
Chile is the 2nd world’s biggest
country producer of fish oil in 2002. Statistically, according to FAO, the
production of Chile reached 128.5 thousand tons in 2002. In this country, there
are some companies that has contributed to Chile Fish Oil industries. These
companies include Golden Omega S.A., Trio S.A., Pesquera La Portada S.A, and
Sociedad Pesquera Landes S.A. Based on OEC database, in 2020, because of huge
production of fish oil, Chile can export of $192 million in fish oil to other
countries.
3.Denmark
Denmark is the 3rd world’s biggest
producer of fish oil in 2002. According to FAO report, the production of fish oil
from Denmark reached 102.6 thousand tons. In 2020, Denmark exported $245
million in fish oil, and it makes Denmark as the 2nd world’s largest
exporter of fish oil. Furthermore, specifically, some destination country of Denmark’s
fish oil are Norway, United Kingdom, Greece, Canada, and Netherlands.
4.The United States of America
The United States of America is the 4th
world’s biggest producer of fish oil in 2002. According to FAO Report, the
production of fish oil from United States of America reached 95.6 thousand tons.
Because of high consumption of fish oil in The United States, according to OEC,
this country still imported the fish oil from Norway, China, Peru, Iceland, and
Canada. In 2020, according to OEC, total import of fish oil to United States
around $ 118 million.
5.Norway
Norway is the 5th world’s biggest
country producer of fish oil in 2002. According to FAO Report, the production
of fish oil from Norway reached 66.3 thousand tons. In 2020, Norway exported
$211 million in fish oil, making it the 3rd largest exporter of fish oil in the
world with main destination country around Denmark, Turkey, United States,
Greece, and United Kingdom.
6.Japan
Japan is the 6th world’s biggest
country producer of fish oil in 2002. According to FAO Report, the production
of fish oil from Japan reached 64.5 thousand tons. In 2020, according OEC
database, Japan exported $ 51.2 million in fish oil, with the main destination countries
is around Chile, Netherlands, Switzerland, Vietnam, and South Korea.
7.India
India is the 7th biggest
producer of fish oil in 2002. According to FAO Report, the production of fish oil
from India reached 64.2 thousand tons.
8.Iceland
Iceland is the 8th world’s biggest
country producer of fish oil in 2002. Statistically, the production of fish oil
from Iceland reached 23.5 thousand tons. In this country, there are company
that has become the leader in fish oil industry. Lýsi is world’s leading
Omega-3 producer from Iceland. In 2020, according to OEC, Iceland exported
$99.9 million in fish oil, and it makes Iceland as one of largest exporter of fish
oil in the world.
9.Spain
Spain is the 9th world’s biggest
country producer of fish oil in 2002. Statistically, the production of fish oil
from Spain reached 14.1 thousand tons. In 2020, according to OEC, Spain
imported $ 38.3 million in fish oil with destination country around Norway,
China, France, Morocco, and Mauritania.
10.Mexico
Mexico is the 10th world’s biggest
country producer of fish oil in 2002. Statistically, the production of fish oil
from Mexico reached 11.4 thousand tons. With huge production of fish oil in
Mexico, this country can export its fish oil to the other countries 3 which is
around Norway, Denmark, Canada, Chile, and United States.
