15 World’s Biggest Grape-Producing Countries
15 World’s Biggest Grape-Producing Countries in 2024
15 World’s Biggest Grapes-Producing Countries in 2024– There are 15 World’s biggest country
producers of Grapes. All the data comes from FAO Statistical Database
(FAOSTAT), United Nations in 2026. Functionally, as independent organization, FAO,
as we know, has the responsibility to develop agriculture and raise human
access to nutritious food all over the world.
Commonly, Grapes in the world are one of the favorite
fruits and have become one of the biggest fruits in production volumes. In 2024,
the Total Production of Grapes all over the world was around 75 million tons
with a harvested area of 6.7 million hectares (ha). With the huge production, many
people may still love to consume grapes and their processed products. In
terms of trading aspects, the producers (wine and table grapes) can even export
it to other countries so it can add to their countries’ income.
Historically, this plant, Grapes, is one of the longest cultivated plants by humans. This plant has been cultivated by humans 6,000–8,000 years ago. From time to time, along with the development of technology and science, the fruit can be consumed directly and some of the fruit can be processed into a variety of derivative products like wine, raisins, and vinegar.

Statistically, from time to time, the world’s production of
grapes is a relatively mixed trend over time. In 1961, the world’s
production of grapes was around 42.9 million tons with harvested areas around 9.3
million hectares (ha). Meanwhile in 2024, the world’s production of grapes
reached 75.9 million tons with harvested areas around 6.7 million hectares.
From 1980 to 2024, the World’s harvested areas of grapes declined from 9.3
million hectares in 1961 and decreased to become 6.7 million hectares in 2024. Athough
there is a decline in the area harvested of grapes from 1961 to 2024, the yield
of grapes increased from 7.21 tons/ hectare (t/ha) in 1961 and increased to 11.29
tons/ hectare (t/ha) in 2024.
Commonly, Grapefruit can be eaten in fresh condition and can be processed into wine, and the types of table grapes are different from Wine Grapes. Commonly, there are some common Table Grapes (fresh consumed grapes) cultivated in some nations, namely Cotton Candy, Concord, Moon Drops, Kyoho, Thompson Seedless, Red Globe, Muscat, and Flame Seedless. Meanwhile, there are some popular Wine Grapes (for Winemaking) cultivated in some nations, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz.

Based on the continental statistical view of the
FAOSTAT database, the production of Grapes can be tracked down into
several regions. Europe and Asia still become the major regions
of grape production in 2024. Statistically, the production of
Grapes from Europe and Asia reached 24.4 million and 31.8 million tons,
respectively. In addition, the Americas also produce around 12.7
million tons of Grapes in 2024. Meanwhile, Africa can produce 4.7 million tons
and Oceania can produce 2 million tons.
Taxonomically, the grape (Vitis vinifera) belongs
to the order of Vitales and the family of Vitaceae. Biologically,
this plant is a fruit plant in the form of a shrub that propagates with many
branches. Agronomically, grapes are one of the plants that can live optimally
in lowland areas and require a long dry season ranging from 4-7 months with a
high intensity of sunlight.
In many developing countries, the cultivation of grapes is
starting to increase because of the bright and potential market for the future.
From all over the world, there are some of the biggest countries which
have millions of grape productions. Here is the rank of 15 World’s Largest
Country Producers of Grapes in 2024 and all this data comes from the Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2026.
