enormous numbers of hop cones output. Specifically, hop is flowers (strobiles) from the Humulus lupulus species.
Taxonomically, this plant includes Order: Rosales; Family: Cannabaceae; Genus:
Humulus, and Species: H. lupulus.
Historically, The Hop plant is predicted to come from the
Hallertau region (Germany) because it was
first documented of hop cultivation. From time to time, the cultivation area of
hop has spread across the country and continent. Functionally, in human life,
the hop has a beneficial function in the food and beverage industries. In the
making of beers, the hoop can stabilize the tastes and influence the beer's
flavor and aroma. Furthermore, the hops can be used as food flavorings. Because

production of Hop cones is relatively increase
from 1970-2022. In the year 1970, the world’s production of hops was 103
thousand tons, meanwhile in 2022, the production became 158 thousand tons.
Furthermore, the increasing production of hops can be tracked by the increasing
harvested areas of hops. In 1970, the world’s harvested areas of hops 71
thousand hectares (ha) and it had become 103 thousand hectares (ha) in 2022. It
can be concluded that the hops production was in positive trend because of the
increasing production and harvested areas from 1970 to 2022.

1. Ethiopia
Ethiopia became the world’s largest country producer of Hop Cones
in 2022. Based on the FAO Statistical Database in 2024, the production of hops
from this country reached 48,347 tons. Specifically, Ethiopia produces Rhamnus
prinoides, an African shrub or small tree in the family Rhamnaceae,
commonly referred to as gesho. The hops, Rhamnus prinoides, can be used
in the brewing of tella, an Ethiopian beer prepared from honey, water, and the
leaves of Rhamnus prinoides. From economic perspective, the production
of Hops from Ethiopia is not only for domestic needs but also for exporting trade. The destination market of Ethiopians hops is Israel, the United States, Canada, and
