10 World’s Largest Country Users of Animal Manure as Fertilizers

10 World’s Largest Country Users of Animal Manure as Fertilizers -- According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT), there are 10 World’s Largest Country Users of Animal Manure as Fertilizers in 2021.  These countries have applied a large amount of animal manure as fertilizer.

10 World's Largest Country Users of Animal Manure as Fertilizers

The long-term usage of soil for agriculture activity depletes its fertility. To support the plant's life, many nutrients in soil have been absorbed by the plant. As a result, the nutrient condition inside the soil is getting lower and lower. To reduce the soil degradation of soil nutrition losses, some input, namely animal manure can be used to re-energize the soil conditions and make it fertile again.

Animal manure is one of the most important things in agriculture.  Many farmers, gardeners and other farming lovers broadly used animal manure to fertilize the soil. Beside chemical fertilizer, animal manure is one of the most important things to ameliorate the soil fertility. Scientifically, the usage of animal manure can improve the soil physic, biology, and chemical. Specifically, organic fertilizers are the input which can improve the physical properties of viz. decrease in sodicity, decrease in soil bulk density, increase in water infiltration rate, increase in porosity and aeration, increase in saline water leaching and chemical properties, i.e. decrease in acidity (Sing et al., 2020). Therefore, with the depleted soil from agricultural usage from time to time, animal manure can be the solution to rejuvenate the soil conditions.

The increasing agricultural activity due to growth of human populations affect the usage of animal manure as fertilizers. Its application is getting bigger and bigger. It can be seen from the FAO Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT) data. In the year of 1961, the World's usage of animal manure as fertilizer was just 18.3 million tons. After more than 60 years, exactly in 2022, it has increased to 27.8 million tons.

Statistically, many countries applied animal manure to improve the soil conditions. So, the sustainability of agriculture activity can be done in a long time. So here are the largest countries that applied huge amounts of animal manure to its agriculture activity. All of the data were obtained from FAO Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT) in 2023.  The calculation based on the nitrogen content applied in the soil.

Demographically, China is one of the world's most populous countries. Until 2021, its population reached 1.4 billion of people. This country still needs huge agriculture commodity to give the food for its huge population. Commonly, according to FAO Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT), China has produced some agriculture commodities. Particularly, some of the most produced agricultural commodities from China in 2021 are Maize (272 million tons), Rice (214 million tons), Wheat (136 million tons), Sugarcane (107 million tons), and Potatoes (94 million tons).

2.United States of America

The United States of America (USA) also has huge application of animal manure as fertilizer. Statistically, in 2021, the usage of animal manure (Nitrogen content) as fertilizer achieved 2,459,218,953 kilograms (kg). As a one of the largest economic countries in the world. The United States of America (USA) has also some most produced agricultural commodity.
