The journey of Audi was started by August
Horch establishing an automotive company, namely A. Horch & Cie. in Cologne
on November 14, 1899. Facing the monetary crisis, Saxony's state bank initiated
to merge the automotive companies, namely Audi, DKW and Horch as well as the
automotive division of Wanderer Werke into Auto Union AG. Until 1965,
Volkswagen acquired a controlling stake in Auto Union (the predecessor to
modern Audi) on January 1, 1965, when they bought a 50.3% share of
Daimler-Benz. After more than 30 years, in 2020 Volkswagen bought the remaining
