10 World’s Largest Country Producers of
Cauliflower and Broccoli- According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT) in 2024,
there are 10 world’s largest country producers of cauliflower and broccoli in
2022. These countries have a huge production of cauliflower and broccoli to
fulfill domestic consumption. Functionally, in daily life, broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) and Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) are two vegetables which
contain many nutritional contents for the human
body. Furthermore, these vegetables also were added into some dishes in many
countries.
In daily life, both cauliflower and broccoli have many good nutritional contents which are good for human life. Based on the kind of nutrition, according to the FDC, USDA, cauliflower has some good nutritional content for the human body. These include protein, lipid, carbohydrate, fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B-6, vitamin E and others. Meanwhile, Broccoli also contains some nutritional content. It consists of Sodium, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and others. Taxonomically, a biological hierarchical classification, both broccoli and
cauliflowers can be included into Kingdom: Plantae, Phylum: Tracheophyta,
Class: Magnoliopsida, Order: Brassicales, Family: Brassicaceae, Genus: Brassica
L., Species: Brassica oleracea L. They are biologically different in the variety’s group. Cauliflower is
included in botrytis and broccoli is included into italica. Due to its classification into Brassicaceae family, both
cauliflowers and broccoli still have close relationship with other plant
species including cabbage, kale, collards, brussels sprouts, collard greens,
savoy, kohlrabi, turnip, radish, and other species.

trend of production and harvested areas of cauliflowers and broccoli was still
in increasing periods from 1970 to 2021. It is related to the demand from
consumption and growth of population. In the year 1970, the world’s harvested
areas of cauliflowers and broccoli was 313 thousand hectares with world’s
production around 4.3 million tons and yield of around 13 tons / hectare. After
more than 50 years, exactly in 2022, the world’s harvested areas of
cauliflowers and broccoli have become 1.3 million hectares with production

China still becomes
the world’s largest country producer of Cauliflower and broccoli in 2024.
According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT), the production of cauliflower and broccoli reached 9,587,297 tons. Geographically, in
China, the main production areas of broccoli can be found in Shandong,
Guangdong, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Yunnan, and Jiangsu provinces. Meanwhile,
cauliflower can be found in Shandong Province (Song et al., 2019).
2. India
India still becomes
the 2nd world’s largest country producer of cauliflower and broccoli in 2022. According to FAO
Statistical Corporate Database (FAOSTAT), the production of cauliflower and
broccoli reached 9,566,000 tons. Geographically, in India, the main production
states of broccoli are in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat,
and Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, in Cauliflower, according to Agriexchange (Apeda)
India, the main production areas of Cauliflower is located in West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana
and Orissa.

America

United States of America (USA) still become the third largest country producer of cauliflower and
broccoli in 2022. According to FAOSTAT, the production of cauliflower and broccoli from the United States of America reached 926,826
tons. Geographically, California and Arizona
still became the main production areas of broccoli and cauliflower in the

of cauliflower and broccoli in 2022. Statistically, the production of
cauliflower and broccoli reached 739,394 tons. Geographically, in Mexico, the
main production areas of broccoli and cauliflower
are located in Guanajuato and Puebla.

Spain
Spain is the 5th world largest country producer of
cauliflower and broccoli in 2022. According to
the FAO Statistical Corporate Database in 2024, the
production of cauliflower and broccoli reached 677,290 tons. Geographically, in
Spain, the main production areas of cauliflower are located in Andalusia, Navarre, region of Valencia, Murcia,
La Rioja, Catalonia. Meanwhile, the main production areas of broccoli in Spain
are located in Murcia.

Italy is the 6th largest country producer of

Rajshahi, Rangpur, Tangail and Kushtia (BBS,

and broccoli in 2022. According to FAO Statistical Corporate Database, the
production of cauliflower and broccoli from Pakistan reached 279,232 tons.
Geographically, In Pakistan, the main production areas of cauliflower can be
found in Punjab and the rest of minor cultivation areas located in Balochistan, Sindh production, and
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Algeria
Algeria becomes one of the largest producers of cauliflower and
broccoli in the world. Statistically, the production of cauliflower and
broccoli reached 251,935 tons.
