15 World’s Most Produced Fish Species - According to The State of the World series and Aquaculture, Report of FAO in 2022. There are 15 World’s Most Produced Fish Species in 2020. These species of fish have become the important species in the world due to the huge of production.  




The data of the 15 world’s most produced species was obtained from the statistical report in FAO Database in 2020. Meanwhile, the rank of the fish is based on the production of fish in 2020.  The kind of fish is the aquaculture fish and captured fish. Aquaculture is the method to breed, raise, and harvest Human in specific place in fresh water or marine. Meanwhile, captured fish is the fish that has been caught by human from wildlife (sea, ocean, lake, and the other parts).  Here is the rank of 15 World’s Most Produced Fish that is based on the “The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2022” of FAO.

1.Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus)

Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) is the most popular and important fish in the world and became one of the most consumed of Fish by The People. This species basically is a freshwater fish that belongs to Cyprinidae family. This herbivorous fish is native Chinese freshwater fish and have the biggest production in 2021 with 5.7 million tons across the nations.


2.Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix)

Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) is the second most consumed of fish in the world. Basically, based on its production, this species has second-biggest production of fish in the world of 2020. Taxonomically, this species belongs to Cyprinidae family. This species is native to China and eastern Siberia. Based on the FAO Report in 2022, the production of silver carp all over the world reached 4.8 million tons in 2020.
